At this time each year, 10 controllers are recognized for their assistance to a pilot in potentially dire straits. The Archie awards not only shine a spotlight on a very deserving group of professionals, but it serves as a lesson to all of us on how to react (or not react) to a situation. Marc played 4 recordings of the "winning" controllers helping pilots get on the ground safely despite being in conditions that would be difficult for most GA pilots. Disorientation, VMC into IMC, Icing, Lost Comms, etc. In addition to providing great options to the pilot, each had a way of keeping the pilot calm and confident. Their empathy, intelligence, and professionalism is representative of most of the controllers out there. After you've listened to the show, stop by the NATCA web site to hear the rest of the "saves". http://www.natca.org/archie_league_awards.aspx. And then take a controller up for a flight and buy them lunch!!! Another great show coming next week. Until then, BLUE SKIES and Tailwinds. http://traffic.libsyn.com/simpleflight/2015_03_08_ATC_Archie_Awards.mp3
