In the spirit of Where's Waldo, we were wondering where's Al Waterloo. Al had a personal conflict which kept him from joining Marc on tonight's show. Thanks to Lora Yowell of Aviation Universe Pilot Shop for agreeing to sit in for Al and pick up the slack. As a veteran guest, the show didn't miss a beat as Lora turned on her charm and her aviation prowess to entertain our guests and share her aviation adventures with our listeners. The show was highlighted by our main guests, Alex Mumley-Dupuis and Lee Griffin. This unlikely partnership brought the 21 year-old Alex together with Lee, who is 48 years his senior. What brought them together is Alex's passion and focus on making a difference in this world, by giving back to the Wounded Warriors program (woundedwarriorproject.org), an organization dedicated to honoring and empowering "wounded warriors". Alex and Lee's support of the organization (www.oneflightforwarriors.org) starts with raising a $10,000 donation and includes building awareness of the Wounded Warrior Project, as well as General Aviation. As part of that effort, Alex and Lee will fly from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Oshkosh in a North American T-28 Trojan and a Citabria Scout. Listen in to the passion in Alex's voice and hear about some great Alaskan flying stories along the way. Lora and Marc also covered hot topics in aviation, including the questionable humor of an Atlanta controller who had a 777 go around for no reason. Other discussions included recent fly-ins, Marc's experience with Piper's inconsistent A.S.S. (Alternate Static Source), the US House's approval of a $15.7B budget chock full of wise spending choices to improve and protect general aviation, a peek at the future of aviation as highlighted by a German University exploring how future pilots will only need to look and think about flying an approach, with the aircraft responding to the pilot's brain. Wow, that's high tech! Lora also talked about the differences between flying in Canada and the U.S. as she navigates getting current in the United States. http://traffic.libsyn.com/simpleflight/2014_06_15_Wounded_Warrior.mp3
